Head for the beaches of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

This ocean front 2 bedroom/2 bath condo has an open floor plan with the kitchen, dining and living areas all facing the ocean. This top floor unit has a deck that can be accessed from the living room or from the master bedroom. The master bedroom suite faces the ocean and includes a king bed, TV and a bathroom with a large walk-in or wheel-in shower. The second bedroom has two double beds and is located next to the second bath.
 
502 Shorewood is a wheelchair friendly unit. There is an elevator to the 5th floor penthouse ocean front condo with wider doors (30" minimum, entry door has a 2.5" high sill plate) into the master bedroom and bath as well as a wheel-in shower. There is a short 2" high ramp into the bathroom. If you require a shower bench or other medical equipment, we suggest you contact Burke's Main Street Pharmacy at (843) 681-2652 to rent what you need. Entry to the Shorewood compound is gated, and you may require assistance at the pedestrian gate where there is a 2" high obstacle. There is a van accessible parking space and a ramp (relatively narrow, switch back) to the elevator. There is wheelchair access to the balcony via the master bedroom (2.5" sill plate on sliding door). The pool is accessible to wheelchair users, however, there are two steps up to the hot tub (only open in winter) and kiddies pool. The Shorewood beach access has an accessible boardwalk, however, it ends with approximately 40' of soft sand that is very difficult to wheel through. Once you get through the soft sand you come to hard sand which is easy to wheel on. That is the main reason we come to Hilton Head. There are two wheelchair accessible beach areas close by. Less than a quarter of a mile to the north there is a wheelchair accessible mat at the Coligny Circle public beach access next to the Holiday Inn. Less than one half mile to the south there is wheelchair access at the Alder Lane public beach access next to the Marriott Grande Ocean Resort.
